Engaged Buddhism: Recitation of the 14 Mindfulness Trainings

  • 26 Apr 2024
  • 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • In-Person (Lotus Hall) and Online

The Fourteen Mindfulness Trainings were first compiled by Thich Nhat Hanh in 1966 as part of his deep aspiration to renew Buddhism and make ethical guidelines available to all who aspire to live mindfully, and to embody the deepest teachings of the Buddha. Members of the Order of Interbeing know the 14MTs as “the torch lighting our path, the boat carrying us, the teacher guiding us.” The trainings help practitioners to touch the nature of interbeing in everything that is, and to see that our happiness is not separate from the happiness of others. They help us to cultivate thoughtfulness, compassionate action, peace, equanimity, patience, joy, loving kindness, and generosity in our daily lives and relationships. They teach us how to live the Bodhisattva vow to benefit others.

Everyone can benefit from practicing these trainings, not just OI members. So this year everyone is invite to participate in a Friday evening recitation of the 14MTs. The evening will begin with a recitation of the 14MTs, followed by deep sharing/listening around our understanding and practice of one or more of the trainings. Please join us in-person in the Lotus Hall at the Tampa Practice Center or via Zoom on the Sangha Line. No need to register. Dana (donations) accepted. Just come to begin your journey to ethical living and transformation grounded in Buddhist wisdom. We look forward to seeing you!

FCM encourages everyone in the Tampa Bay vicinity to experience the richness of practicing together, in-person in the Lotus Hall. There is no need to register ahead of time. If attending in-person, please familiarize yourself with our Covid-19 Safety Protocols.
