Please join member and ecologist Dani Hall for a nature walkThis is a wonderful opportunity for FCM members (and their guests!) to socialize with others and build community connections.

Event Details

  • Meeting Point: We will gather at the entrance to the Otter Trail, located near the parking area for Shelters 4, 5, and 6.
  • The Walk: * Main Walk: The Otter Trail is a scenic, easy-terrain loop of slightly less than a mile. We will spend 45 to 60 minutes exploring Coastal Hammock, Salt Marsh, and Pine Flatwoods ecosystems.
  • Bonus Trek: For those who wish to continue, we will follow with the Bobcat Trail. This is a 0.6-mile walk (approx. 20–30 minutes) through a unique coastal mangrove ecosystem.
  • Difficulty: Easy; the terrain is level and manageable. The entire walk shouldn't take more than 90 minutes.
  • Wildlife: Beyond migratory birds, keep an eye out for gopher tortoises, roseate spoonbills, and the park trail's namesake river otters.

Lunch & Amenities

  • Picnic: There are covered pavilions available near our meeting site for those who would like to relax and socialize. So feel free to pack a lunch or a snack.
  • Facilities: Accessible bathrooms are located near the meeting site and throughout the park.
  • Nature Center: We encourage you to visit the on-site Nature Center to view live exhibits and learn more about the local ecology, geology, and history of the area.
