For many of us, life continues to present multiple challenges as we move through our second year with the Covid-19 pandemic. Certainly one challenge we are all facing is increased isolation and possibly losses in our lives. Then there are the myriad other social and personal stresses in our day to day lives-- relationships, jobs, families, health, finances, politics, environment, etc.  Wouldn’t it be valuable to learn ways to be more resilient, to be able to care and heal ourselves, and to be able meet whatever challenges come our way with wisdom and compassion?

In this workshop, FCM mindfulness instructor, Marilyn Warlick, LCSW will introduce us to the work of James Gordon, MD, founder of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, DC, who has worked for decades empowering people in their own self-awareness, healing and care. He’s worked with victims of war, natural disasters, homelessness, and abuse, and he teaches easy meditation practices that anyone can use, whether they have experienced significant trauma or just trying to cope with the everyday stresses of modern life.

Marilyn will introduce us to three types of meditation as described by Gordon: concentration (soft belly breathing to calm and relax oneself in any situation), mindfulness (awareness of present moment experience) and expressive meditation (mindful movement, dance and art) as practices to help us all care for ourselves, find healing and wholeness, and help us meet the challenges, whatever they may be, as opportunities for personal healing and growth.

The learning objectives of this workshop are as follows:

  • Learn three key components for self compassion practices at home and in the work setting
  • Understand and utilize three practical mindfulness tools for supporting an openness and stability in one's life
  • Learn how these practices can serve as an antidote to trauma

This workshop is for beginning meditators, experienced meditators, and for those interested in helping others learn these simple techniques for self awareness and care.  The suggested fee for this workshop is $30 ($50 for CE credits), with reduced rate participation also available.
