A didactic presentation with practical experiences of mindfulness exercises discussing the relevance of "mindfulness" to changing of habit patterns of addiction and maintenance of newly acquired healthy behavior.

Learning Objectives

- Describe the function of mindfulness in behavior change and maintenance of newly acquired healthy behavior.
Demonstrate three behavioral practices that develop Mindfulness.

- Discuss the use of mindfulness practices to manage or change problematic thinking.

- Discuss the use of mindfulness practices to manage or change difficult emotions.


Workshop Facilitator

Charles Stewart, LMHC (retired), retired from Stewart Marchman Act Corporation, a not-for-profit substance abuse, mental health treatment agency where he had served in various positions of administration and supervision for clinical services for 20 years. From 1970 to 1990, Charles held positions of Clinical Supervision as well as counselor with adults, adolescents, and families at outpatient substance abuse and mental health centers in Oregon and Florida. Charles has practiced mindfulness in his daily life and at work since 1997. From 2001 to present he has taught mindfulness practices to the public, therapists and recovering clients.
