2022 Mindful Living Path Winter/Spring Intensive | Cultivating the Mind of Wellbeing

Registration

February 28 – May 23

Most of us have at some point experienced a mind of wellbeing: relaxed, relatively free of worry or agitation, and open. Perhaps this occurred when we were in nature, listening to music, in the company of friends, during meditation, or at other times. Unfortunately, for most of us, this is not our “normal” state of mind that we live with from day to day. Often, even if no conscious worry or other agitation is present, there may be an undercurrent of low-level stress, anxiety or irritation. A mind of dis-ease.

The Buddha taught that a mind of wellbeing is possible to have on an ongoing basis when we understand the causes necessary to support a healthy mind. However, when the mind is covered over by a lack of mindfulness and a strong identification with one's thoughts and beliefs, we become confused, and we suffer the mind of dis-ease instead.

In this Intensive, we will then explore Buddhist teachings and practices that will help us break through our confusion and reactivity and discover the mind of wellbeing that is always available to us. We will do this by strengthening our ability to calm the mind and see clearly – the very foundations of mindfulness, as taught by the Buddha. At the same time, we will be using this capacity of mindfulness to explore how we relate to our experiences of body and mind, which can help us to see through our misperceptions, diminish our stress and reactivity, and live with more ease and happiness.

Readings will include the book Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation by Sharon Salzberg and other selected short readings from Thich Nhat Hanh, Joseph Goldstein, and other teachers of mindfulness that will be available on our Intensive resource page. In addition, we will use reflective exercises and guided meditations to support our practice and integration of the teachings.
