Dharma Path Winter/Spring 2016 Intensive

Training the Mind Utilizing Key Buddhist Slogans

February 22—May 16, 2016

In years past, Fred has commented on the text,“The Seven Points of Mind Training,” by the Tibetan master, Chekawa Yeshe Dorje.  It is a much loved and deeply venerated text in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, well known for its slogans that help us apply the full breadth of the Buddha’s Mahayana teachings to daily life. These slogans focus on the Unconditioned Awakened Mind (Bodhicitta) and how this mind can manifest as lovingkindness, compassion and understanding in all the activities of our ordinary life. The transformation of seemingly adverse situations into the path of awakening is a unique focus of these mind trainings.

In this upcoming Intensive, we will continue to study and practice with the text’s fifty-seven slogans. Using the foundation of the slogans practiced in our Fall 2015 Intensive, each participant will be studying the whole text, but will be assigned specific slogan(s) to work with each week. As the slogans subject matter is extremely diverse in content, all participants will find fertile material to work with. Being given specific slogans to work with each week will provide an opportunity for each participant to directly fit the text into the context of their current life condition.

If you wish to register for this Intensive and did not participate in the prior one, it is expected that you will listen to the recorded talks from that Intensive and the Fall 2015 retreat and familiarize yourself with the commentaries on those slogans studied prior to the Intensive’s beginning. Once you’ve registered, you will be notified which talks to listen to and what commentaries to read.

Commitments for each Intensive participant:

1)  The commitment to a minimum of one hour of daily formal meditative practice and/or other practices related to this intensive.
2)  The commitment to attend all the practice periods of your sangha during the twelve weeks.
3)  The commitment to attend a bi-weekly support/discussion gathering of other sangha members participating in the intensive (if some are living in your area) or by phone.
4)  The commitment to have bi-weekly group phone consultations with Fred during the intensive.
5)  The commitment to read several Dharma texts that will be recommended to participants.

6)  The commitment to be present for Dharma Talk conference calls with Fred.

Due to the nature and length of this practice intensive, there is a suggested donation associated with it of $100. This is a suggested donation, and participants are free to donate more or less, depending on their individual practice of Dana and their financial situation. Please note that participation in this Intensive is only open to members of the FCM sangha. For information about membership, please access our website at www.floridamindulness.org.

This intensive will begin February 22, 2016 and end on May 16. Dharma texts to be read will be announced once registration has been completed. The final date for registration is January 25.
