It may also be helpful to review our Meditation Practice Guidelines. If you attend a meditation without attending the introductory session first, please let one of our greeters know that you are new. They will help you with any questions or concerns. How should I dress for the meditation session?Loose, comfortable clothing is best. Most people dress casually, as there are no specific requirements. What are your meditation sessions like?Meditation practice is held in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Each practice session includes both sitting and walking meditations, followed by a teaching and/or discussion. The format of the meditation session varies and are described in the individual sangha sections. Participants sit on meditation cushions on mats or on chairs. Newcomers are helped in finding a comfortable seated meditation posture by experienced members of the community. Meditation periods begin and end with the sound of a bell. Who comes to these meditations and talks?People from all walks of life and spiritual and religious backgrounds attend our weekly meditation. We are as diverse as the population of Florida. Members of our community (or sangha) share a common wish to benefit others and discover lasting happiness and peace of mind in their own hearts through the practice of mindfulness and the Buddhist teachings. |
