The demands placed on care givers in helping others often contribute to high stress and burnout. Mindfulness practices are increasingly being used to offer support by being present to suffering while also caring for oneself and others.

Marilyn is an LCSW who has practiced Social Work for 30+ years. She has been practicing mindfulness meditation since 1994, and completed Training in End of Life Care for Health Care Professionals in 2004 in the Naropa/Rigpa joint program. She has worked within the Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in various programs, and is currently with the Veterans’ Homeless Program in the Tampa area.
Cindi Mitchell, BA, LPN, spent most of her career as a teacher and freelance writer. Before moving to St Petersburg, she completed nursing school and worked for several years as a hospice nurse. Cindi has practiced mindfulness meditation in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh for the past five years. She recently completed the Being With Dying course at the Upaya Zen Center. Cindi currently writes for an educational publisher and is a hospice volunteer.
