Mindfulness and ADHD: Incorporating a Mindfulness Approach to the Management of ADHD

A mindfulness practice to increase awareness and attention, curb impulsivity, and cultivate well-being shows great promise in the management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD has been observed in both children and adults in every culture. It affects not only an individual’s behavior, but thoughts, emotions, and overall sense of peace and calm. Difficulty with distractibility, sustaining attention in tasks, forgetfulness or procrastination, restlessness, trouble getting organized, and trouble managing feelings such as frustration and anger often lead to issues in school, employment, and relationships. The ability to focus is a significant key to living successfully in the present moment, and individuals with ADHD benefit from techniques to help them be in the present moment, pay attention, and become focused on the now.

This workshop addresses 1) identifying the symptoms of child and adult ADHD; 2) understanding the impact of ADHD on an individual’s behaviors, thoughts, and emotions; 3) identifying practical and successful strategies for management of ADHD symptoms; and 4) exploring mindfulness practice (attention and awareness training) to cultivate attention span, help an individual stay calm and centered, and better able to cultivate well-being.

Participants will:
  • Increase their understanding of ADHD in it’s pure and more complicated forms.
  • Identify key components of successful ADHD management strategies.
  • Explore how mindfulness practices can be combined with other management strategies to improve focus and cultivate well-being for individuals living with ADHD.
