When talking with a friend, cooking for family, participating in a meeting at work, or simply driving in traffic, are we really "here," focused on this moment? Do we sometimes feel swept away by emotions or lost in thought? Practicing mindfulness will help us to "show up" for life, make deliberate and healthy choices, and more fully enjoy the rich experience of the present moment.
The Florida Community of Mindfulness (FCM) is pleased to offer a six-week course, "Awakening to Life: An Introduction to Mindfulness and Meditation," designed to support the practice of mindfulness. The course is intended for those new to the practice of mindfulness, as well as those seeking to establish a more consistent daily mindfulness practice. Each class will focus on experiencing the basic practices for establishing mindfulness and will allow time for discussion and sharing. Participants will learn about mindfulness of the breath, physical sensations, emotions, thoughts, and the “bigger” mind. The classes are experiential, with practices each week that may include sitting and walking meditation, deep relaxation, loving kindness meditation, and practicing mindfulness in everyday life.
The course will commence on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 and meet each Tuesday, through May 21 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Classes will be held at the FCM Practice Center, 6501 N. Nebraska Avenue, in Tampa. The cost is $75 for all six sessions. If you have questions, please contact Diane at firstname.lastname@example.org.
