An Introduction to Buddhism: History, Teachings, and Traditions
Buddhism is one of the most complicated world religions. In the 2500 years since the time of the Buddha, his teachings have spread into many cultures and evolved into many traditions.

Beginning March 19, the Florida Community of Mindfulness will offer a four-week Introduction to Buddhism course in Tampa. Classes will be suitable for people with a general interest in Buddhism, as well as for both new and experienced practitioners who want to expand their understanding of the Buddha and his teachings.

We will begin with the cultural and religious environment in which the Buddha lived, and then describe his life and teachings, including the Four Noble Truths and other core Buddhist doctrines. We will go on to look at how Buddhism diversified as it spread into China, Japan, southeast Asia and Tibet. Finally, we will survey the current state of Buddhism in Asia and the West.

Talks will be supplemented with slides and handouts, and time for discussion will be included. Instructors will be long-time Buddhist practitioners with experience in a variety of traditions.

Classes will be Tuesday evenings, 7:00 to 9:00 pm, March 19 through April 9 at the FCM Practice Center, 6501 N Nebraska Ave, in Tampa.
Cost online is $50 for all four sessions. The on-site fee for individual classes is $15.
